Ratio
The comparison of two quantities a and b of similar kind is represented as a : b is called a ratio also it can be
represented as a/b
In the ratio a : b, we call a as the first term or antecedent and b, the second term or consequent.
PROPORTION
The equality of two ratios is called proportion.
If a : b = c : d, we write, a : b : : c : d and we say that a, b, c, d are in proportion.
where, a is called first proportional, b is called second proportional, c is called third proportional and d is
called fourth proportional.
Law of Proportion :
Product of means = Product of extremes
Thus, if a : b : : c : d =>(b × c) = (a × d),
Here a and d are called extremes, while b and c are called mean terms.
